Flame Testing

It isn't every day that students get to play with fire in a school building.

However, in Physical Science class, eight students did just that. Under the supervision of Angela Peoples, DAA science teacher, students used five different compounds containing potassium, calcium, sodium, boron, and copper to create colored flames, ranging from violet to green. As part of the experiment, students also learned about cross contamination and the effect it can have on lab results. Seokjin Heo, a freshman from Korea, didn't like the idea of playing with fire very much, but he overcame his fear. He was very surprised at how much he enjoyed the lab. Thanks Mrs. Peoples for a great learning experience for our Physical Science class!
