Breann's Blessing

On a Friday afternoon in early December, an unsuspecting Breann Coughlin quickly checked DAA's calendar online to see what time sundown was that evening.  That simple search turned into a life-changing experience for herself and the forty-two students at Dakota Adventist Academy.

For several months, Breann had felt a desire to do something bold for the Lord and had been looking into evangelism schools to learn how to work in the community for God.

On that particular afternoon, God showed Breann an opportunity.  While looking at DAA's calendar, she noticed their upcoming Spring Week of Prayer in March.  Because it was December, she reasoned the school already had a speaker for the event but she felt impressed to email DAA's chaplain Rob Griffin anyway.

What she didn't know was that an arranged speaker had recently dropped out, and Mr. Griffin was searching for someone new.  Breann's email was an answer to both of their prayers.

Coming to DAA this spring was a homecoming in some ways for Breann.  Breann (Torgerson) Coughlin served as the assistant girls' dean during the 2002-2003 school year, but had not been back to campus during the school year since, visiting only during campmeetings.  Leaving Adam, her husband, and Carson, her 2 year old daughter, at home in Williston, Breann left with Elliott, her 4 year old daughter, for a week of spiritual growth and ministering.

DAA's Spring Week of Prayer started on Sunday night, March 21, and continued with meetings twice daily during school, ending with a final sermon on Sabbath morning.  Focusing on following God's will for our lives, Breann spoke of the immediate need to know God and have salvation through Him.  She emphasized that once we know God, we need to use the talents that God gave us to tell others about him.

On the Sabbath morning of March 27, Breann traveled with the students and staff of DAA to Jamestown Church's Youth Sabbath and shared with the congregation about the importance of becoming Christian soldiers for God.  During an afternoon program in Jamestown, DAA took Breann's message to heart and shared their musical talents that God gave them for the glory of His name. The evening vespers and program were hosted by the AcroLights Gymnastics team.  DAA staff and students are very thankful for the blessings Breann shared with us during the week and the generous hospitality of the Jamestown Church.
